What STAR rating is your helmet?

Ever wondered how good your helmet really is?

Now you can find out!

An independent Australian group called 'CRASH' (Consumer Ratings and Assessment of Safety Helmets) test and award star ratings to motorcycle helmets.

CRASH test 30 dirt bike helmets each year to a similar test Standard as the Australian Standard (AS1698), plus 2 angular impact tests. They then give each individual test a star rating as well as the helmet an overall star rating. That way you can see how each helmet performs comparatively for each test, as well as overall. CRASH aim to identify the best performing helmets so that us riders can buy the best helmet that we can afford and also push the distributors to import the best helmets available. Basically CRASH aim to make riding safer by assessing which helmets rate best!

Don't you think it's strange that there's star rating on things like washing machines but not on helmets?
